So, here’s a fun topic to save for the holiday table discussion:

A restaurant has been fining parents for “not parenting” their kids while dining.

“When diners open their menu at the Toccoa Riverside Restaurant, they are greeted with a warning: ‘Adult surcharge: For adults unable to parent $$$.'”

I find this not only COMPLETELY appropriate, but highly entertaining.

Look, parent your kids as you will – gentle parenting, helicopter parenting, feral parenting, whatever. But in MY former daycare teacher/activities director/parent opinion, some of y’all let your kids run wild and everyone else isn’t here for it.

And the opinion is GROWING:

We were out one night and a little kid (maybe 4 or 5) was at a table across the room LOUDLY singing one line of a song.  Over and over.  The adults at the table were DELIGHTED.  The rest of us were shooting looks after 5 minutes.  After 10 my teenager mumbled “If that kid doesn’t shut up I’m gonna LOSE MY MIND”.  The adults just WERE NOT reading the room.  Maybe because HOW COULD ANYONE NOT enjoy their darling belting the same little tune over and over? And I think THAT’S the root.  Because I relayed this story laughingly to a coworker with small kids, and said “it’s just….NOT EVERYONE thinks your kid is adorable”.

YOU WOULD HAVE THOUGHT I CALLED HIM A CURR AND INSULTED HIS MOMMA’S POTATO SALAD.

The glare I got! With a “well, but kids make noise!” Yeah, no. That’s different.

So fine away, restaurants.  FINE AWAY.  And enjoy the debate topic this holiday season.

Here’s the story:
