About a month ago Metallica put up a very cool bracket on their website (kinda like a March Madness bracket) to find their favorite song as chosen by the fans. All the greats were in there for sure, with the final round having “One” up against “Master Of Puppets”, with Puppets taking the overall win.
Don’t get me wrong, I love both of those tracks; One opened my eyes to Metallica when the video was in heavy rotation in the MTV days. But before that, Ride The Lightning was what I head every day blaring out of my older brother’s stereo. “Creeping Death” became a symbol of what Metallica was because, well, it was the song I heard the most before I actually knew who they were.
So for my personal bracket, “Creeping Death” takes the cake, but I’m so happy that “Master of Puppets” took the overall win, and not something from St. Anger. 😛
